Friends

Well Its down to 4 of us. Mike is on his mission in Georgia Macon, Carty is having his farewell this Sunday and is leaving for Portland Oregon. Ill be next in August. Then as soon as bird gets past his stake prez. he will be leaving next (we hope) and Trevor-the poor guy- wont turn 19 until august so we are placing him last to head out. This picture is probably the last time we will all be hanging out together... which i guess is a good thing, we all cant wait to go and serve and then come back and be together again. I'm sure we are all going to be friends for a very, very long time.

Favorite Conference Talk

My favorite conference talk was the first talk of the Sunday Afternoon session given by Jeffrey R. Holland. His talk was mainly describing how other religions think that the Book of Mormon cannot be the words of god because of the verse in Revelations 22:18-19 it says:

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.

"And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

Elder Holland explained so clearly that this was in no way related to bringing forth the Book of Mormon. It is known by New Testament scholars that the BOOK and the WORDS that the verses are referring to is JUST the book of Revelations. It cant be talking about the bible as a whole because the bible wasn't even compiled at that time. and another good point is that IF the verse "was" talking about the bible, then the words of prophets that came after Revelations namely "Luke" and "John" would be TECHNICALLY adding to the bible. Therefore we can clearly see that the Book of Mormon is just another testament of Jesus Christ. It just Re-affirms what is already written in the bible and adds many plain and precious things that were left out of the bible or taken away.

Ok so why is this my favorite talk you ask? The day before conference my friend Megan told me that one of her friends from college who is Catholic asked her that very question. He said "how we can claim the BOM as the word of god when Revelations clearly states that no more words can be added to the book?" my friend Megan knew the answer but its really hard to explain when you're put on the spot like that. she asked me what i would have said and I knew as well but its hard to come up with the words to say to explain it to somebody else! so since she asked me that, the question had been rolling around in my head all day and night. I was so shocked that Elder Holland's talk was directed right at the same question that was asked to me just the night before. It was almost as if the talk was directed to me. I felt the spirit so strong during his whole talk and i will always remember how he put those great words and now i will not be hesitant to share his talk with the next person who asks that question!

also read 2nd Nephi Chapter 29 if you have any doubt i think it is my favorite scripture that explains the need for both the Bible and Book of Mormon SOOO well.

178th General Conference April 2008

Well Conference just got over, i really enjoyed it, to be quite honest this was the first time.. i have watched all sessions. The Sustaining of our dear Prophet Thomas S. Monson and the solemn assembly was so powerfull! Each talk that was given was delivered with the full force of the spirit. President Monson's talk at the end of the Sunday afternoon session touched me a lot. You can tell how much he loves his wife and how gratefull and dedicated he is to her. All this you can tell just by the reverence in which he places her name. He always has the power to make us laugh especially today when he mentioned his wifes note to the family stating "dont let daddy touch the microwave, stove, dishwasher.. etc" Next his story of how his ancestor's mission to Sweden was the cause for much joy and happiness and led to the converting of President Monson's future wifes family. That definatly struck me in the heart since im preparing to serve a mission. An experience like that is a major Testimony booster. I was very glad he shared that story with us. Well everything about conference was great. this one will probably be one that sticks in my mind forever and ever.

Mission Time... almost

OK. Last night i had my Final Interview to complete my papers with the Stake Prez, Prez. Frost. it was awesome he is a good man who has like put his heart and soul into missionary work and moving it along not just with youngmen but especially with the ward and around the community. So now that we had our little chat he has put in my papers to the big guys in SLC, i should get my mission call in about 2 1/2 weeks maybe sooner (ill let ya know) but anyways im so excited to serve a mission! my cuzin Tyler is getting ready to leave in 2 weeks from today he is going to the MTC to prepare to serve in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 2 years! im really happy for him and i can tell he is going to be an awesome missionary. It makes me wonder where the lord is going to place me in the world it would be so exciting to go to some far away country and learn some crazy language but it would also be just as awesome as going to anywhere in the states speaking English. Mike is still out and serving strong in Macon Georgia! and Carty is getting ready to leave a month from now to head over to Portland Oregon! and well bird... ill let ya know next time i talk to bird whats up with him. So us three got it going on! anyways so yeah mission prep thats what i gots to be thinking about next if ya got any gospel trivia send it my way i need to be ready for anything! well thats all for now im just another step up the ladder!
